Frequently Asked Questions About the Best Bike Mirrors

Which side should I install my bike mirrors on?

Bike mirrors can be installed on the left, right, or both sides of your bike. It’s just a matter of preference. Here in the U.S., we drive on the right side of the road so most bikers tend to install their bike mirrors on the left side. The cycling mirrors above come in pairs so you can install them on both sides if that’s what you prefer.

Is a large mirror better?

Not really. Whether you go for a large or small bike mirror is up to your preference. Most small mirrors don’t offer the right scale you need to correctly identify what’s coming up behind you. Large scale mirrors, on the other hand, catch more glare because of their larger surface area. At the end of the day, go for the bike mirror that offers you the best view without too much distraction.

Are bike mirrors worth the investment?

Absolutely yes! A bike mirror helps you stay on the right side of the road. It allows you to see whether or not the coast is clear before you make your turn. Bike mirrors may not look good on your bike but these things can help keep you riding safe and sound.

What are the different shapes of bike mirrors?

Bike mirrors come in all shapes and sizes. There are three common ones in the market — round, oval, and rectangle. Round bike mirrors are the most lightweight but their shape limits your field of view.

Oval bike mirrors are slightly bigger than the round ones thus and they also offer a larger field of view. Oval mirrors are perfect if you need to see the street from various riding positions.

Lastly, rectangular mirrors are the largest of the three. It also offers the largest field of view. The only downside of this is the weight that most riders frown on. Choose the shape that works best for you.

Happy biking!
